Montrose Verdugo City
Homes For Sale, Open Houses, Sales Comps & Market Report
The names of Montrose, Montrose Verdugo City (Glendale) and La Crescenta-Montrose (unincorporated area in Los Angeles County) are all grammatically correct definitions describing legally defined boundaries in the Montrose community which rests partly in Glendale and partly in Los Angeles County, but for purposes of simplicity most residents refer to this area simply as Montrose.
Adjacent or near the Montrose area, several Glendale Neighborhoods are located adjacent to or near the Montrose area. These Glendale Neighborhoods include: Sparr Heights, Montecito Park, Montrose-Verdugo City, Whiting Woods, Mountain Oaks and Glenwood Oaks. The Glendale Neighborhoods Oakmont and Oakmont Woods are located close to Montrose, but we have decided to describe those two neighborhoods separately.
Montrose-Verdugo City
Known as a “neighborhood” within the City of Glendale, Montrose-Verdugo City has its own independent history, shopping park, city-feel and even its own Chamber of Commerce. The charming neighborhood “Montrose Shopping Park” is the main attraction in this area and for good reason: it’s a beautiful tree-lined outdoor retail shopping area with many nice restaurants.
Immediately surrounding the Montrose Shopping Park there are nice residential neighborhoods mostly consisting of older ranch style homes that share views of the Verdugo Mountains and San Rafael Hills to the south and the San Gabriel Mountains and Angeles Forest to the north.
Montecito Park
Southwest of the Montrose Shopping Park and just south of the eastern part of Glendale’s Montrose-Verdugo City neighborhood is the lovely neighborhood of Montecito Park. Montecito Park rests at the northern base of the San Rafael Hills and consists of some wide, gently sloped streets adjacent to more narrow, steep and windy hillside roads.
Homes in this delightful neighborhood are typically older, beautiful and well kept. Also, located at the northern boundary of Montecito Park and adjacent to Montrose Verdugo City is the Montrose Community Park with baseball fields, tennis and basketball courts, playgrounds and picnic areas.
Sparr Heights
Located just south of the Montrose Shopping Park and north of the Oakmont Country Club and Golf Course is the attractive Sparr Heights neighborhood. Many nice, older Mission Revival homes line the streets here and most of the homes are well landscaped. The proximity to the Montrose Shopping Park, mostly level streets with nice sidewalks, and views of the surrounding mountains make this a great neighborhood that lends itself to walking.
Whiting Woods
The Whiting Woods neighborhood in North Glendale is located within the northern slopes of the precious Verdugo Mountain chaparral landscape. This gem of a neighborhood is somewhat more secluded than many of the other Glendale neighborhoods and the area is a retreat from the busy and more densely traveled Glendale streets on the other side of the mountain.
With some of the most beautiful oak groves in all of Glendale, many of the streets in Whiting Woods are picturesquely shaded in a wooded landscape that offers a reprieve from the hot summer sun.
In addition to the beautiful chaparral landscape and mature oak trees, there are many lovely traditional style and mid-century modern architectural homes with large lots located in this neighborhood. If you enjoy hiking and mountain biking, the neighborhood has access to some of the best Verdugo Mountain motorways (fire roads) in Glendale.
